What a closed deck with three runners means
A closed deck has no gaps in the top surface, so small items, powders and bagged product cannot drop through and the deck can be washed down properly. Three runners underneath give entry on two sides for pallet trucks and forks.

What closed deck rules in and out
A solid top surface means small items, powders and bagged product cannot drop through, and the deck can be washed properly because there are no voids to trap residue.
What you give up is drainage and weight. Liquid that lands on a closed deck stays there, so for washdown areas where water must run off, an open deck can be better. For nearly everything else — food, pharmaceutical, small components — closed is the right choice.
Three runners
Two-way entry for forks and pallet trucks, and runners that span a rack beam. Lighter and cheaper than a five-runner build, and adequate unless pallets meet roller conveyors or chain transfer.
