What “multi-use” means in practice
Sites that run one pallet specification across several product lines save real money — one purchase order, one storage buffer, one wash procedure, no risk of the wrong pallet reaching the wrong area.
The cost is that a pallet good for everything is optimal for nothing. If one line has a genuinely harder requirement — heavy racked loads, or direct food contact — that line should have its own specification rather than forcing the general pallet to cover it.
Where the boundaries are
For beam racking, the heavy duty range. For direct food contact with traceable material, the hygienic food grade range. For one-way export where weight drives cost, lightweight pallets.
Within those boundaries, a multi-use pallet is the sensible default.
