Food Industry

Food manufacturing is where the case for plastic over timber is most straightforward, and it comes down to one thing: timber cannot be cleaned.

Wood absorbs moisture, and with it blood, spillage and bacteria. It splinters, it sheds fibres, and a broken board is a foreign-body risk in a production hall. Plastic can be washed down and returned to service, which is why food operations move to it first.

Within the food range the specifications that matter are: plain, closed surfaces with no ribs or cavities to trap water; virgin material where the pallet contacts unwrapped product, because reclaimed input cannot be traced; and temperature rating where product moves through blast freezing or steam cleaning — a material good at one end of that range is often brittle or soft at the other.

For meat specifically, crates built to EHI Retail Institute requirements with drainage are a distinct product rather than a general food-grade container, because meat releases liquid throughout handling.

Beecraft supplies food manufacturers, frozen food distributors, cold-storage operators, dairies and flour mills across the UK.
