The Euro footprint and why it is fixed

800×1200 is the footprint European logistics is built around. Two fit side by side across the internal width of a standard road trailer, which is the constraint that set the dimension in the first place — and that same 2×1200 mm arrangement is what racking bays, conveyor widths and dock equipment across Europe were then sized to.

That is why the Euro footprint is worth keeping even where a larger pallet would carry more. Deviating from it means every downstream piece of equipment has to accommodate the exception.
