Hygienic pallets on the UK footprint

Hygienic pallets are moulded plain and closed — no ribs, no cavities, no open deck — so they can be washed and, more importantly, so cleanliness can be demonstrated. In an audited food or pharmaceutical operation the question is never whether a pallet looks clean but whether it can be shown to be, and geometry decides that more than material does.

That smooth geometry has a consequence: it removes the structure a normal industrial pallet uses for stiffness. Most plain hygienic pallets are therefore rated only a few hundred kilograms in racking, however high their static figure looks. If your hygienic stock goes into beam racking, you need either a metal-reinforced PRO build or a pallet specifically rated for it.

Material matters too. Reclaimed plastic performs well mechanically and costs less, but the input cannot be traced. For direct food contact, virgin HD-PE is the correct specification — it is a documentation requirement, not a performance one.
