Beecraft supplies plastic pallets across Slough and the Thames Valley from its Wembley depot, a straight run down the M4. The range covers hygienic food-grade, heavy-duty, lightweight export and ESD pallets, plus pallet boxes and crates. Stock lines reach Slough Trading Estate addresses next working day.
Slough Trading Estate is the largest trading estate in Europe under single private ownership, and delivering into it is a different job from delivering to a standalone warehouse on a business park.
Several hundred businesses sit inside one boundary, on a private road network of avenues rather than public highway — Buckingham Avenue, Edinburgh Avenue, Liverpool Road and the rest. Junction 6 of the M4 feeds the estate almost directly via the A355, and Heathrow is roughly seven miles east along the A4. That combination is why food manufacturing, contract packing, pharmaceuticals and air-freight forwarders all ended up in the same square mile.
A lot of the older terraces were built for lighter vehicles than the ones using them now. Turning circles are tight and yards are shared, so a full artic drop is not always the easy option. Give us the unit number and we will match the vehicle to the access.
Many occupiers run a booking-in system on a single goods-in door. We would rather have the reference before the vehicle leaves Wembley than have a driver waiting on Bath Road.
If you run more than one unit on the estate we can consolidate onto a single delivery. Short distances between occupiers is the one thing the layout genuinely makes easy.
The Heathrow proximity matters for specification as well as geography. Air freight is charged on volumetric or actual weight, whichever is greater, so every kilo of pallet is paid freight. Exporters here want the lightest nestable pallet that holds the load, not the strongest one available. See our Heathrow coverage for more on that.
Slough has been a food manufacturing town since the trading estate’s earliest days in the 1920s and 1930s, and the wider Thames Valley still carries a dense cluster of food production and contract packing. Those sites buy pallets on food-safety grounds first.
Most UK food manufacturers are certified to the BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety, and the part that bites hardest on pallets is foreign body control. A timber pallet is a source of splinters, nails, staples and dust in a production hall. It is why so many sites now operate a straightforward no-wood rule past the goods-in door, and transfer product onto plastic before it goes any further.
One honest caveat. Around 95% of our new product range is made from recycled plastic, which is the right answer for the vast majority of applications. Where a pallet or box will be in direct contact with unwrapped food rather than with cases and wrapped product, say so at quote stage and we will specify on that basis. Start with our hygienic food-grade pallets and plastic pallet boxes.
Three things decide it on this estate: whether the product is food, whether the pallet is flying out of Heathrow, and whether it ever comes back to you.
| Operation | Typical choice | Why it fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Food production hall and high-care areas | Hygienic closed-deck, single colour per zone | Washable, non-absorbent, no cavities to trap product or water | Confirm your wash temperature and chemistry with us before ordering |
| Chilled and frozen dispatch | Cold-rated pallet plus freezer spacers | Stays serviceable at low temperature and speeds even freezing | Impact resistance falls as temperature drops — specify for the coldest point |
| Air freight out of Heathrow | Lightweight nestable export pallet | Lower tare weight cuts chargeable freight; outside ISPM 15 timber rules | One-way export pallets are not rated for racking |
| Racked storage in a distribution unit | Heavy-duty rackable, 1200×1000 or 800×1200 | Rated racking load and stable dimensions in automated handling | Ask for the racking figure, the lowest of the three ratings |
| Contract packing, returns between sites | Euro containers, stackable crates and pallet boxes | Stack and nest, wash easily, remove consumable packaging cost | Check they nest with the containers you already run |
Slough is a straightforward run from our Wembley depot — A40 or A312 onto the M4 and off at Junction 6 — so Thames Valley deliveries do not depend on a national carrier network sorting your pallets twice.
On emissions zones: Slough is in Berkshire, outside Greater London, so the ULEZ does not apply to your site or to vehicles running locally. It covers all London boroughs, so it is only relevant if your own vehicles come to Wembley to collect — £12.50 a day for non-compliant cars, vans and specialist vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, operating 24 hours a day every day except Christmas Day. Anything over 3.5 tonnes falls under the separate Low Emission Zone instead.
The Wembley depot covers Slough and the Thames Valley alongside West London, Heathrow and the Home Counties. If your sites straddle more than one, we can put them on one delivery.
Yes, and it goes more smoothly if you give us the unit number, the avenue and any goods-in booking reference at order stage. The estate runs on private roads with shared service yards, so we match the vehicle to the access rather than sending the largest one available.
Hygienic closed-deck pallets are the normal choice for BRCGS-certified sites because they can be washed and dried, carry no nails or splinters and have no cavities to trap product. Suitability still depends on your application — the zone, the cleaning regime and whether there is any direct contact with unwrapped food. Tell us those three things and we will confirm which products fit and which do not.
A lightweight nestable export pallet. Air freight is charged on volumetric or actual weight, whichever is greater, so the tare weight of the pallet is money on every consignment. They nest into a fraction of the height of rackable ones, so empties take less space, but they are not rated for racking.
No. Slough is in Berkshire, outside the Greater London boundary, so the zone does not apply. It covers all London boroughs, which matters only if your vehicles collect from our Wembley depot in Brent. The charge there is £12.50 a day for non-compliant cars, vans and specialist vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes; heavier vehicles come under the separate Low Emission Zone.
Stock lines are typically available for next working day delivery to the UK mainland, dispatched from our Wembley (HA9 0YJ) depot. Custom sizes and bespoke colours usually run to 2–4 weeks depending on specification. Give us the postcode and the quantity and we will confirm a date rather than a range.
No. We supply single pallets and full loads alike, and there is no maximum either. For smaller quantities it is worth asking about used and refurbished stock, which carries the same handling characteristics at lower cost.
Yes, from our Wembley (HA9 0YJ) depot on most stock lines. Call ahead so the order is picked and waiting, and tell us your vehicle type so we can confirm access and loading.
Send us the unit, the load and any audit standard you work to, and we will specify the right pallet and price it.
