What is a foldable pallet box?
A foldable pallet box is a pallet-sized plastic container with hinged or removable side walls that collapse onto the base when it is empty. It is also sold as a collapsible pallet box or a folding large load carrier. Loaded, it behaves like a rigid box: it is lifted by forklift or pallet truck and can be stacked where the model allows.
The difference shows up on the way back. A rigid box returns full of air. A foldable box returns flat, so more empties fit on one vehicle and in one bay. That is the whole reason to choose one, and it only pays if the boxes actually come back.

When does a foldable pallet box make more sense than a rigid one?
A foldable box makes more sense when empties travel back to you and space on that return trip costs money. A rigid box makes more sense when the box rarely moves empty, or when the load and handling need the stiffest possible structure.
A typical case is a closed loop between a supplier and a factory. Components go out full; the empties come back on the same lorry. With rigid boxes, the return load is mostly air. With foldable boxes, the same vehicle carries far more empties, or carries other freight alongside them.
A rigid or solid box is usually the better choice when boxes stay on one site, move by conveyor or tipper, or carry heavy, dense product that needs the strongest walls. What should you check before you buy foldable pallet boxes?
Check five things: footprint, internal volume, load rating, how the walls fold and lock, and what you will clean it with. All five differ by model, so compare datasheets rather than assuming one box’s figures apply to another.
Footprint decides whether the box fits your racking, vehicles and existing pallets. Footprints vary from model to model, so check each one against your racking and vehicles. Internal volume tells you how much product each trip really carries. Load and stacking ratings are model-specific and are stated for each product; ask us for the figures on the one you are considering.
Then look at the folding mechanism and the access. Some boxes have a drop-down door in one wall so staff can pick from a stacked box. Some take lids and liners. If the box will be washed, tell us the chemicals and temperatures you use. That decides whether a particular model is suitable, not the word “foldable”.
Are foldable pallet boxes suitable for food?
Some are, and it depends on the model. Our collapsible insulated box, for example, is a hygienic, insulated, double-walled design described for transporting and storing food, with smooth surfaces that clean easily. That does not make every foldable box food-safe.
Food-contact suitability is set by the material and the specific product, and should be confirmed in writing for your application. For cold chain work, insulation and temperature range are also model-specific. A double-walled box helps protect contents from heat and cold, but it is not a refrigerated unit, and the right choice depends on journey time and product.
How much space do folded boxes save on return trips?
The saving is the difference between a box’s standing height and its folded height, multiplied across every empty you move. The exact figure varies by model, so we give it per product rather than as one number for the range.
To work it out for your own loop, take three figures: how many empties return per week, the folded height of the box you are looking at, and the internal height of your vehicle. From those you can see how many layers of empties fit, and whether a return run can be combined with other freight.

What does a foldable pallet box cost?
There is no single price. Pricing is tailored to the pallet box type, quantity, specification and delivery requirements, so we quote each order rather than publish a list.
The figures that change a quote are the model and footprint, whether you need lids, liners or wheels, the quantity, and where it is going. We have no minimum or maximum order quantity, so a trial batch to test a loop is fine. We deliver UK-wide with a tail-lift on request, and collection is available on the majority of products.
