Beecraft supplies plastic pallets across Enfield and North London from its Wembley depot, a straight run along the A406. The range covers hygienic food-grade and cold-store pallets, freezer spacers, pallet boxes, Euro containers and crates. Stock lines reach Brimsdown and Ponders End next working day.
Brimsdown is one of the largest industrial estates left inside Greater London, sitting between the Lea Valley railway and the reservoirs on Enfield’s eastern edge. How it was built shapes what its occupiers should buy.
The A1055 Mollison Avenue is the spine, running north to Junction 25 of the M25 at Waltham Cross and south towards the A406. That gives Brimsdown, Ponders End and the Montagu estates in Edmonton something unusual: motorway access at one end and the whole of inner London at the other. It is why so much of London’s chilled and ambient food distribution ended up in the Lee Valley, feeding stores, caterers and the wholesale produce trade at New Spitalfields.
Plenty of Lee Valley units predate modern distribution standards — lower eaves, dock levellers retrofitted or absent, yards shared with the neighbour. Tell us what you have at the door and we will send the right vehicle.
Serving London from Enfield means many small runs, not a few trunk loads. Packaging that folds, nests or stacks on the return leg is worth more here than raw load rating.
Enfield is a London borough, so the zone applies. That pushes operators towards fewer, fuller vehicle movements — which in turn favours reusable packaging over consumable.
North London’s bakery and chilled-food cluster is the reason cold-chain questions come up on nearly every Enfield enquiry we take. Blast freezing, chilled staging and frozen racking each ask something different of the equipment under the product.
Start with the freezer spacer, because it is the part most often overlooked. Spacers sit between layers of cased or trayed product in a blast freezer so cold air can move through the stack rather than around it. Even freezing means shorter cycles and fewer soft centres in the middle of a pallet. Timber battens do the same job badly: they soak up moisture, freeze to the product and shed fibres when knocked apart. Moulded plastic freezer spacers wash, drain and go straight back into the cycle.
Around 95% of our new product range is made from recycled plastic. Where an item sits in direct contact with unwrapped food rather than with cases and wrapped product, say so at quote stage and we will specify on that basis.
Work through it stage by stage rather than buying one pallet for the whole site. The blast freezer and the delivery van want opposite things.
| Stage | Typical choice | Why it fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bakery production and ambient dispatch | Hygienic closed-deck pallet | Washable, no splinters or nails near open product | Confirm wash temperature and chemistry before ordering |
| Blast freezing cased or trayed product | Moulded freezer spacers between layers | Air moves through the stack, so cycles are shorter and more even | Spacer height has to suit your case pattern — send us a photo |
| Frozen storage in racking | Cold-rated rackable pallet | Holds its dimensions and rated racking load at low temperature | Specify for the coldest point the pallet reaches, not the store average |
| Chilled multi-drop into London stores | Euro containers and stackable crates | Stack loaded, nest empty, no consumable packaging on the return leg | Check they nest with the containers your customers already run |
| Wholesale produce and market returns | Returnable crates plus lightweight pallets | Survive repeated handling and wash between trips | Agree who owns the empties before the first trip |
Enfield is a straightforward run from Wembley — the A406 North Circular across the top of London, or the A10 down from the M25 — so North London deliveries do not sit in a national carrier network overnight.
Enfield sits inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, which covers all London boroughs and runs 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day. The charge is £12.50 a day for non-compliant cars, vans and specialist vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes; vehicles over 3.5 tonnes fall under the separate Low Emission Zone instead. It applies to your site and to ours in Brent, so it is a cost both ends of the journey — one more reason to consolidate orders rather than drip-feed them.
The Wembley depot covers Enfield alongside the rest of North London, the Lee Valley and the Hertfordshire border. Sites either side of the M25 go on the same delivery.
That is where they earn their keep. In a blast freezer the spacer holds a gap between layers so cold air passes through the stack instead of around it, which shortens the cycle and freezes the middle of the pallet at close to the rate of the outside. Send us your case dimensions and layer pattern and we will suggest a spacer height.
Impact resistance does fall as temperature falls, which is why the material matters more than the shape at low temperatures. The important thing is to specify against the coldest point the pallet reaches, including any blast cycle, rather than the nominal store temperature. Tell us that figure and how the pallet is handled at it, and we will point you at the products that suit and rule out the ones that do not.
Most hygienic lines are designed to be washed, and closed-deck surfaces with no cavities are far easier to clean than timber or open-frame timber-and-nail construction. There is still an upper limit on temperature and on some chemistries. Give us the wash temperature, the detergent and the cycle time and we will confirm what the range will take.
The zone covers all London boroughs including Enfield and Brent, where our depot sits, and runs every day except Christmas Day. The charge is £12.50 daily for non-compliant cars, vans and specialist vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, with anything heavier covered by the separate Low Emission Zone. In practice it is an argument for fewer, fuller deliveries and for packaging that comes back.
Stock lines are typically available for next working day delivery to the UK mainland, dispatched from our Wembley (HA9 0YJ) depot. Custom sizes and bespoke colours usually run to 2–4 weeks depending on specification. Give us the postcode and the quantity and we will confirm a date rather than a range.
No. We supply single pallets and full loads alike, and there is no maximum either. For smaller quantities it is worth asking about used and refurbished stock, which carries the same handling characteristics at lower cost.
Yes, from our Wembley (HA9 0YJ) depot on most stock lines. Call ahead so the order is picked and waiting, and tell us your vehicle type so we can confirm access and loading.
Send us the temperature, the load and the postcode, and we will specify the right pallet or spacer and price it.
