Why 1000×1200 is the UK standard

At 1.2 m² the UK footprint gives a quarter more deck area than the 800×1200 Euro pallet’s 0.96 m². For the same number of pallet movements you handle a quarter more goods, which is why UK distribution settled on it.

The trade-off is the 1000 mm dimension. Where stock crosses into European networks built around Euro racking and Euro conveyor widths, a 1000 mm pallet may not fit the receiving equipment, and that is a conversation to have with the receiving site before ordering rather than after.

In lightweight the deck is normally nestable or perforated, keeping unit weight down for one-way shipping where the pallet is not coming back and its cost is part of the consignment.
